Planning our One Year Anniversary

Our One Year Wedding Anniversary is only two short months away, I can't believe it. Eric and I are so excited to celebrate a year of wedded bliss, and celebrate our love and relationship with a much needed vacation. We had so much fun on our honeymoon cruise last September, that we decided to start looking at cruises again for our upcoming Anniversary.

If you didn't know, certain cruise lines even have free loyalty/rewards programs, and can make the deal a little sweeter by knowing you will get added extras while on board. Even places like Costco or SAMS Club have travel packages for members that are special discounted rates and include on-board spending, or even drink packages. Something to definitely consider if you're wanting to get a great deal... is shopping around on different travel sites. Make sure you're looking at what rooms are available to the travel planner you are thinking about using. We initially were going to book with a different travel site for a ocean-view balcony, but then Eric read the fine print and noticed that there might be an obstructed view because of the Emergency lifeboats that were located on that deck. I didn't even think about that! Imagine walking into your room with an ocean-view balcony only to see a bright yellow or orange lifeboat hanging right outside your window. not cute.

We decided to take our time and shop our options, looking into where we wanted our cruise to go, how many days the cruise would be gone, and what the total cost would be.

Here are a few things we did to start planning our Anniversary cruise:

Pick a Destination. Eric and I had a few places on our list we were wanting to cruise to. Eric's top choice was Puerto Rico. He has never been, and I haven't been since I was 10 years old. We are both Puerto Rican, so we loved that we could have the possibility to visit the place both of our families are from. I had Nassau, Bahamas on the top of my list... I want to see the Atlantis hotel for myself, even though Eric has been there before.

Start Saving $$$. Cruises are all inclusive, so they aren't super cheap. They're definitely affordable for everything you get (unlimited food, activities on board and a decent sized room) but if you want to spring for a nicer room with a view, saving some money for the trip and money to spend on excursions is definitely something I would recommend. Eric and I have been building our savings account since our wedding... we luckily did not put ourselves into debt with our wedding, and spent our wedding gift money wisely, giving ourselves a little cushion in our bank account. We started adding to our savings every paycheck, and it started building up quickly that even for our Anniversary cruise, we did not have to put it on credit. What a relief. Vacations are meant to be stress-free, not stressful by putting yourselves into debt.

Research Fun Activities. We still haven't done as much research as we both want to at this point, but we are excited to book our excursions soon. I know on our last cruise we both enjoyed sea-life encounters like swimming with the sting rays and snorkeling, so we might want to do something like that again, and a tour of some-kind would be awesome in Puerto Rico to see more than one thing while we are there.

All in all, we are so excited to spend our anniversary on a cruise! I feel so lucky that we are able to take this trip and relax for a whole week alone. I can't wait to start planning our next vacation together!

xoxo.
